After changing out the vac pump the power is back and no black smoke. Remove the transfer case shields. There was two types of transfer case available to your truck. I have the beast up high enough to get a good look at it and I can't see how you can drop the case between the trans crossmember and torsion bar crossmember. Make sure you disconnect the battery.
