Continued use will cause premature rear brake failure and too much stress on the front brakes to stop the vehicle. There needs to be a recall. I had hot air escaping from the plug. I think there has been numerous cases of this problem. If you get in water deeper than the vent, backing a boat into the water or off road, water will get into the diff. This will cause rear brake failure.
I got the seal and pulled the axle, what fun that was only to discover that the axle seal is mpossble to replace without a machine shop because there is a hydraulically pressed spacer after the bearing roller that keeps me from getting the seal off. Wonder how much money was saved by eliminating these few items? I found out that Toyota part 90404-51026 works perfectly with the threads in the axle. Usa did not view this as a safety issue. Consumer had the vehicle towed to the dealer for analysis, and mechanic noticed that the differential was worn out and needed to be replaced. But no bother I can tell that any information that is gathered from you is a bit suspect considering that you could not determine which vehicle I was refering too in my original inquiry about the axle seal.
However, when I drove it 40 miles I heard a horrible grinding sounding noise coming from the passenger side differential which I had not heard from before. Slide the pieces on and use the jaws of the vise to support the bearing and use a hammer to drive it together. How unfortunate but on the C200 Rear end there is no other way to re-install a new seal without removal of the bearing assy. I'll cal them tomorrow and see if they can have it by Saturday. It has rained around here before and been axle deep in flash flood waters getting out. The left front 4x4 hub cover was noted to be missing and the hub had spiral cracks all around it. It looks like the bearing housing just unbolts from the axle once seperated from the dif shaft.
Failed seals cause differential oil to leak leading to axle wear, among other issues. Nissan is aware of this problem and refuses to acknowledge the defective design and application. I did this on my Titan and finally did it on our Frontier today. Took a day to get. . The problem with seal replacement is it is difficult and time consuming and must be performed perfectly or the seals will leak again. Does anybody have any idea how to replace this that does not involve major muscle movement? The dealership refused to confirm this as a torque fracture and refused to entertain any thought that the truck they had sold had malfunctioned.
Oil leak also spreads all over breaks leading to possible break failure. Can anyone confirm this with experience? At first, the dealer could not reproduce the problem. Every other post it just dont work. Yet another person had the same problem I was told by the service department and got a new box.
